Morning Routine Changes at LEMS

As of January 30, our morning routine has changed for both the elementary school and the middle school.

If elementary students arrive before 8:30 a.m., they will be seated in the gym in rows with their class.  During this time, students may read books or visit quietly with a friend.  Students will be expected to remain seated and use a whisper voice.  We will be teaching and practicing the behavior expectations this week and teachers will be in the gym to monitor students.  This change will allow students to be more closely monitored and allow teachers to spend extra time with students who need some more individualized attention.

Middle school students making A’s and B’s and that have all assignments turned into teachers, will get privilege time.  These students will receive a card that allows them to be in the gym.  While in the gym, students will be able to use mp3 players and visit with friends.  If students choose to bring mp3 players and cell phones, the school will not be responsible for any lost or stolen items.  Grades will be monitored every Friday, at the end of the day.  If a student has a C, D, F or missing assignment, the student will spend the following week in a designated classroom.  During this time in the classroom, the student will be expected to work on any missing assignments, current assignments or receive extra help from their teacher.

Students have been made aware of this upcoming change and will be taught the behavior expectations.  This will not change any class schedules or take away the opportunity for students to eat breakfast.   The hope is that students will be motivated and that the value of hard work and high academic expectations will be emphasized.
