The book is on sale now for $25. The forward below describes what is contained in the book The book was compiled by Sue Sparkman.
Forward taken from the book:
"This book is a history of Lockwood, Missouri shown through news articles, pictures and events from 1884 to 1979. Since the articles are copied from the local newspaper, you might say this book has many authors. Great care was taken to present the articles in the actual verbiage represented at the time it was written. Many hours were spent making sure the names associated with pictures are correct.
Sue Sparkman began this endeavor after doing research for her family history and realizing so much was going to be lost from the aging archives at the local library. Even when carefully kept, the old newspapers have a finite life span.
What is presented in this book is not every article and story, but ones that show the progression of the history of Lockwood, the surrounding area, and its people.
This history will be invaluable to those who are curious about how Lockwood started, how it lived and survived through the years. But, more important - it is a chronicle of the great people who inhabit her and their families and friends.
As with any book, many people stand at the periphery helping the author. Sue is grateful for all of the help given by:
The Lockwood Chamber of Commerce, the Lockwood Public Library, Stephanie Obert, Chipper and Larry Allen for their direct and hands on support of this project, family and friends too numerous to mention, who helped when Sue came to quiz them about the names associated with old pictures and events. Their help was invaluable.
Thanks to all of you."
