Kindergarten Screening We will be holding Kindergarten Screening in the Elementary Cafeteria on August 14. Please bring your child to the front door. Their temperature will be taken upon entry. It will take about an hour to complete. Once completed, a teacher will go over the results of the screening with the parents. Parents may return to pick up their child or we will have a place for you to sit and wait. If you are unsure of what time your child's appointment is or you need to schedule for a screening, please call the elementary office Tuesday, August 11-Thursday, August 13 from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.

The Lockwood schools fitness room will be closed to community use through the month of May. Due to state and county recommendations, we will only open the facility for our student athletes during the month of May or until recommendations from health officials changes.

The following is a message from Kelly Heiskell at the Lamar Career and Technical Center: Next week we will be allowing students to come to LCTC to pick up their belongings. We will also be asking them to return textbooks and other materials that belong to LCTC. Any unreturned books or items will result in billing to the student. Our pick up times will be as follows: Tuesday 5/5: Noon-4pm Wednesday 5/6: 8am-Noon Students enrolled in Automotive, Welding, Machine Tool, or Carpentry should report to the outside shop bay door of their current program to collect their things. If students are enrolled in Graphic Design or Health Occupations they should report to the front entrance. Social distancing guidelines will be observed. Instructors in Graphic Design and Health Occupations will be contacting students about completing certification tests. Automotive ASE testing will be conducted at LCTC on Wednesday, May 13th beginning at 10 am. These are the only programs still needing to complete certification assessments this academic year.

The students and faculty of the Lockwood R-I District request the honor of your presence at our Veterans Day Program. The program will be held Monday, November 11, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. in the high school gymnasium. The program will honor all American Veterans and their families. The Lockwood FCCLA will be serving refreshments for veterans and their families prior to the program at 9:45 a.m. in the high school cafeteria. This is a wonderful opportunity to fellowship with other area veterans as well as the Lockwood students and faculty.

Our FBLA officers and a few members traveled to MSSU this week to an officer training. Local business men and women came and spoke about being a leader within FBLA. As most of you are probably aware power is out in many parts of town. Lunches at school are still being served. Due to the power outage most of our phones are non operational. There is a phone hooked to a server at the high school attached to a generator. If you need to contact either the elementary school or high school use the 232-4513 number for the high school and messages can be relayed to the elementary school.

On May 6 our freshman students will be participating in a Reality Enrichment and Life Lessons, or REALL, simulation. This allows students the opportunity to experience two lives based of of choices made in adolescence, both good and bad, and their effects in adulthood. The simulation requires the help of several volunteers and we would love to see our community come together to show our students their support. You can call the Dade County Neighborhood Center at 417-637-2701 to sign up to help out.

FBLA had a very successful fishing tournament on Saturday! Twenty-two teams showed up and the first place bass weighed in at 6.21 lbs! First place went to Jason and Chayse Coose with a payout of $502 as well as a tackle box from Lockwood True Value. Second place went to Brad Taylor and Brian Watson who took home $100 and had a 5 lb bass. Third place went to Skylar Neill and Jobe Edwards who took home $50 and had a 4.46 lb bass. The next ACT test is October 27. Registration has to be completed online at www.actstudent.org by September 28 to avoid late fees. Lockwood Schools will be taking bids until September 21 on 9 round tables from elementary classrooms and 40 elementary sized chairs. Bids will need to be mailed, delivered, or emailed to Superintendent, Clay Lasater. If you would like to look at the chairs and tables you can set up a time to view them by contacting Mr. Lasater at the high school.

There will be no softball open field on July 19 and 26. The mandatory meeting on July 26 has also been cancelled.

Reminder: High school football camp tomorrow. Due to needing to leave for 7 on 7, we will start at 7 tomorrow. Which means you need to be there, ready to go, before 7. Tuesday-Friday we will go after weights from 8-10.

Mercy Clinic in Lockwood will be providing free physicals for the youth sports programs on Friday, June 22 starting at 12:30. Physicals are required before youth football and volleyball practices begin.
Just a reminder that JH volleyball camp will be next Monday and Tuesday, June 18-19, from 1-3 in the high school gym. Cost is $15 if you have not yet paid. If the student pre-registered before the end of school, campers will receive a t-shirt.
Attention football parents: due to a possible change in basketball summer schedule, we are moving a week of football camp that was originally planned for the end of July to JUNE 25-29. This will be held in the mornings. This will NOT change junior high/youth camp which will be still be July 23-26. Junior high track has been cancelled for tonight! The high school track meet is still on along with the baseball game at home.
Congrats also to the Horse Team! Four students traveled to Missouri State University, Tuesday, April 10 to compete in the Equine CDE at the Southwest District FFA Contests. These students went to get the experience of a contest to determine if it would be something they wished to do next year. The team placed 18th out of 45 teams. Team consisted of Tucker Berry, Makinley Neil, Sydney Rice, Tyler Dubbs.
Congratulations to the Agricultural Management CDE team! They qualified for state competition, placing 9th out of 35 teams! Students completed a 100 question test assessing them on objectives learned in class. Team members include Sydney Rice, Kallie Caldwell, Jack Puriton, Raven Winefeldt.
The PTO Carnival will be held Friday, April 20 from 5-8 pm. There will be bounce houses, games, food and fun! Look for notes to be sent out later this week with more information.

Congratulations, Seth! Every year Mrs. Roschevitz's Creative Writing class turns in entries to the Crowder Quill, a literary and art magazine of Crowder College. Seth Williams wrote a fictional short story that was chosen to be published in this year's Quill. Crowder College will host the annual awards ceremony with a campus- and community-wide poetry reading. The event will take place Thursday, May 10 at 7 p.m. in Elsie Plaster Community Center on the campus of Crowder College in Neosho.
